By day, it's a handsome stone. By night with a UV light? Whole different story. Like a rock superhero!
Yooperlite is a unique fluorescent rock discovered along the shores of Michigan's Upper Peninsula. Named after the area's residents—known as Yoopers—and its remarkable glow, Yooperlite quickly became a favorite among collectors after its identification by Erik Rintamaki in 2017.
What makes it so special is the sodalite hidden within the stone. Under ultraviolet light, that sodalite fluoresces in vivid orange-yellow patterns that seem to appear out of nowhere. It's the kind of transformation that never gets old, no matter how many times you've seen it.
Metaphysically, Yooperlite is associated with curiosity, awareness, personal insight, and bringing hidden things to light. Many people work with it as a reminder to stay open-minded, trust their intuition, and look a little deeper beneath the surface. It is also commonly connected to the third eye chakra and spiritual exploration.
Interesting in daylight and downright unforgettable under UV light, Yooperlite has earned its reputation as one of Michigan's most fascinating discoveries.
