Sourced from China, Mexico, and Madagascar, these stones range in color from purple and deep blue to green, yellow, and clear or white, often arranged in hypnotic layered bands. Transparency varies from transparent to translucent, occasionally opaque, with a glassy luster.
 
Crystallographically, Fluorite forms primarily cubic or octahedral shapes, though slices may display dodecahedral or other complex structures. Many slices fluoresce under ultraviolet light, glowing in shades of blue, green, or purple depending on impurities.
